Greetings, Desoto High School Family:

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I write this letter of introduction as the new Associate Principal of Desoto High School.  I am truly honored to accept this new role and look forward to continuing my work with Mrs. McGowan, the administrative team, and our amazing staff as we work to advance student achievement. Through collaboration, I am confident we will continue to provide our students with a truly challenging and enriching school experience.

As a product of the Richardson Independent School District (RISD), my life was deeply enhanced by my classroom teachers. Not only did they provide me with a sound educational foundation, but they inspired me to realize that an education is more than just interacting with letters and numbers. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English and Masters in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. My administrative background has been extremely diverse, with experiences both rich and varied in Discipline Alternative Education Programs (DAEP); “At Risk” Charter High Schools, as well as Traditional and Magnet High School Campuses. For the past four years, I served as the principal of a PK- 11th grade campus in Austin, Texas.

The high school years are important and critical times for our students. What happens during these years to students will have a lasting imprint on their growth and development, one that goes far beyond our doors. My goal as Associate Principal is to provide leadership that will facilitate a school environment which promotes literacy with a focus on college readiness. I am confident that our school will continue to be a place where our students can learn and grow academically and socially.

My office is in the Freshman Suite. Please feel free to stop by anytime, as my door is always open. I look forward to working with each of you!

In leadership and service,

Verlean P. West

Associate Principal
